Hepplewhite Period Amboyna Wood Cylinder Bureau
A HEPPLEWHITE PERIOD AMBOYNA WOOD CYLINDER BUREAU circa 1785
Commissioned by Private client (featured in Country Life Magazine)
Copied from a photograph only this piece is made from solid Swietenia Mahogany throughout, veneered with Amboyna Burl and crossbanded with inlays of Kingwood and boxwood. The top concave drawer front follows the line of the cylinder which can only be opened by pulling on the writing slide, revealing the interior of small drawers and ogee arched pigeon holes. The lower drawers are constructed from Swietenia Mahogany throughout and also lock the cylinder closed. The finely cast brass handles and top gallery are exact copies of the originals and are hand made using the lost wax process and finally gilded.
