** SOLD AUGUST 2015 **

Designed by Gary Armstrong, Camellia is made from English Burl Walnut and Canadian Burl Maple and measures 15 inches deep x 18 inches wide x 90 inches high.

A private commission, Camellia incorporates the client's love of flowers and the great outdoors, and is the epitome of Mother Nature; both warm and feminine in nature. The richness of the English burl walnut set against the light Canadian burl maple gives the Camellia sasanqua four-petal design a delicate, airy feel while tempering the grand scale of her formidable height.

The center section boasts a pinched-waist design incorporating a door with a pendulum viewing window.  The hood balances the base with the same tapered square columns culminating into the crown, which features a pierced two-tier gallery, and is finished with a polished brass finial.

Camellia’s hood provides home to a traditional Franz Hermle eight day triple-chime movement. Her face boasts a floral perimeter with a central parquetry design, emulating interconnecting flower petals in the early stages of opening.  In between the central petals and the central circular background, single branches with developing pods seeds preparing to open and escape can be envisioned. The outer level between the numeric and Roman numeral circle reveals the same single seed pods integral to a splayed plant, following the seeds journey towards eventual bloom.

Beyond the Roman numeral time ring within the spandrel panels, the seeds have blossomed into the Camellia flower, amongst other similar species of blooms, buds, and bell flowers adorned with scrolling acanthus leaves.
